I am pleased to announce NNCP 8.5.0 release availability!
NNCP (Node to Node copy) is a collection of utilities simplifying
secure store-and-forward files and mail exchanging.
This utilities are intended to help build up small size (dozens of
nodes) ad-hoc friend-to-friend (F2F) statically routed darknet
delay-tolerant networks for fire-and-forget secure reliable files, file
requests, Internet mail and commands transmission. All packets are
integrity checked, end-to-end encrypted (E2EE), explicitly authenticated
by known participants public keys. Onion encryption is applied to
relayed packets. Each node acts both as a client and server, can use
push and poll behaviour model. Also there is multicasting areas support.
Out-of-box offline sneakernet/floppynet, dead drops, sequential and
append-only CD-ROM/tape storages, air-gapped computers support. But
online TCP daemon with full-duplex resumable data transmission exists.

The main improvements for that release are:
* Fixed "nncp-bundle" workability.
* Mistakenly "-mcd-wait" option was enabled by default in
"nncp-call".
* Ability to override internal default timeout for online protocol
through "$NNCPDEADLINE" environment variable. Can be useful for
very high delay links.
* NNCP builds on OpenBSD.

What is the versioning scheme of NNCP? I usually see bugfix releases
bump the patch level (3rd number) and not the minor version (2nd number)...

It depends exclusively on my subjective opinion of how big is the bugfix
and are there any new features added. 8.5.0 basically adds OpenBSD
support (seems that it should not built on it for a very long time),
that can be treated like a feature. 8.3.0 repaired building on 32-bit
systems, that is very big and important bugfix. Major releases means
some backward incompatible change as a rule, however recently I replaced
μTP with gVisor's tcpip in minor one, that also was backward
incompatible, but I hoped that hardly anyone got it used.
